Dallas/Fort Worth is famous for flocking to the newest thing. Whether that be a new bar, restaurant or store, North Texans like to check out the hottest happenings in the area. Bars are probably the most obvious of this trend. This year saw its share of new openings. Bars making use of the nice year-round weather were in tall supply this year, with large patios opening in a number of locations. In fact, all of the bars to make this list include great patios. Here are the best new bars of 2013 in DFW.

The Lot

The Lot was created in the space that used to be the Backyard Beach Bar. There are now picnic tables and a giant sandbox where the pool used to be. Along with the spacious back patio area is a large side deck and an inside bar as well as a full restaurant area. A fitting drink on the menu is the Lakewood Lemonade, made of Maker's Mark, lemonade, mint and ginger. There is also a juice bar that changes seasonally. The food menu is diverse, ranging from quesadillas to cashew butter and honey sandwiches.

The Rustic
3656 Howell St.
Dallas, TX 75204
(214) 730-0596

The Rustic is a joint project from the people who created Sunset Lounge and Bowl & Barrel, along with musician Pat Green. Because of the partnership, it includes a substantial live music venue. The venue is booked almost nightly with local and national artists. Although it does lean country, that isn't the only music you'll find here. The selection of Texas beer will keep your thirst quenched while you listen on the biggest Uptown patio.

Capital Bar
400 E. South St.
Arlington, TX 76010
(817) 801-1488

Capital Bar opened a location in Arlington this year in addition to its Fort Worth location. It was built in an old Goodyear Tire location, which worked out well for an open atmosphere. The garage doors now work as roll-away walls when the weather is nice. This is especially helpful to bring the whole space together when local bands play the patio.

Truck Yard
5624 Sears St.
Dallas, TX 75206
(469) 500-0139
www.facebook.com/texastruckyard

Truck Yard has to be the coolest thing to happen to Dallas in a long time, not just 2013. It is located on Lower Greenville, near the new Trader Joe's location. It is a yard with space for a few rotating food trucks as well as the stationary ice cream stand, food truck and permanent trailer bar. The yard is a mix of old tables and chairs for patrons to gather, eat, drink and listen to live music from the built-in stage. Among the unique seating is a table in a truck bed and a treehouse bar. It is hard to ask for much more out of one place.

Twilite Lounge
2640 Elm St.
Dallas, TX 75201
(214) 741-2121

This Deep Ellum bar is currently on the "new" list, but the owners hope to make it more than that. They want it to become a place locals visit on a regular basis. Their aim was for a laid-back type of place, in contrast to a lot of other local nightlife. It is also a live music venue and even hosted a secret concert by The Old 97's Rhett Miller not long after it opened.
