Best Museums For Dates In DFW

Going out for dinner and a movie can be passé. Now, there are many options for those who enjoy cultural enrichment of museums. Here is a list of the best museums to take your date in DFW.

www.dma.orgThe world-famous Dallas Museum of Art is open late until 9 p.m. on Thursday nights. But on the third Friday of each month, the museum hosts Late Nights and is open from 6 p.m. until midnight. This isn't exclusively for adults. There are a wide variety of events from movie screenings and performances to museum tours and special readings. Some events require a ticket purchase. Late Nights at the DMA are June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17 and Nov. 21.

www.perotmuseum.orgOn the first Thursday of the month, the Perot is open until 9 p.m. when special adult date night programs occur, and they sell out fast. Each event offers a different set of experiences. For example, "Superstitions" is the theme for the June Social Science event. Performances, journeying through the universe and having your fortune told are part of the events scheduled along with hands-on experiments and group discussions. To participate in Social Science Adult Night Events, you must be over 21 years old (signature cocktails are served) and you must reserve your tickets in advance. Tickets are $13 for members and $18 for non-members of the museum.

From the moment you drive up to it, you can easily notice a huge Southwest Airlines jet sticking out of the side of the building. Its partnership with the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Texas at Dallas affords its ability to offer traveling exhibits and newly discovered artifacts. You can climb into the cockpit of an aircraft, view historical video and listen to historical recordings. This is a great museum for the budding air travel enthusiast as well as seasoned veterans of airspace travel and design. And it makes for a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. www.kimbellart.orgFort Worth's Kimbell Art Museum is open late until 8 p.m. on Friday nights which makes it a perfect date night destination. After viewing its vast permanent collection of African/Oceanic, American, ancient, Asian, European and Pre-Columbian art, one can go to dinner and then opt for an overnight stay at the Omni Ft. Worth at a discounted rate. Admission to the museum is free to members, $14 for adults and $12 for seniors.

Bring a basket, blanket and your favorite vino and enjoy music from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Coming straight from work and don't have time to pick up something to eat? There will be food trucks on site (but no alcohol for sale). There is also a themed costume event. For example, on June 19, "A Hard Day's Night" (a tribute to the Beatles) will be featured and attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite British band (think The Animals, The Doors, The Monkeys and The Who) for the possibility of taking home the British Invasion Award.
