May marks many special occasions on the calendar, each meaningful in their own way. This year, Memorial Day will be more than heartfelt for many DFW families and friends. Join them in commemorating those who have served and gave their lives in one of many events held in North Texas this May.

Held on Monday, Memorial Day, May 28th, the Remembrance Run pays homage to those who have fallen in the name of service. This race is organized by runners who consider running their mission and truly enjoy creating positive running experiences for others. Pushing themselves to their limits, runners in McKinney can start the Fun Run at Cockrill Middle School at 8 a.m. or the official 5K and 10K at 8:30 a.m. Register early before May 2nd for a $5 discount for the 5 or 10K. Registration for the Fun Run is only $15. Early registrants can join the event for $30 for the 5K and $35 for the 10K.

For five years running, pun intended, the Annual UNFORGOTTEN HEROES 5K & 10K have brought athletes and their families together to honor servicemen and women for Memorial Day. This run is special for many reasons, however, it should be stated that the dedication to veterans shown by the organizers makes this run even more heartfelt. A percentage of the proceeds will directly be contributed to the locally run Disabled American Veterans Chapter. Sign up, contribute to the greater good and get fit together, in the spirit of remembering those we have loved and lost.

Trinity Park is once again the site of great fun, wonderful people, and a celebration. For the 8th year in a row, the Fort Worth Runner's Club is hosting the Annual Fort Worth Runner's Club Memorial Day 5K. Online registration provides a discount. If your knees aren't trembling and you still have rhythm in your step after the run, couples can participate in the dance contest with three trophies and prizes and a fun show for those who just want to kick back and watch.

For a new way of ringing in the summer, starting with Memorial Day weekend, gather family and friends for the Slide Into Summer 2018 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run in Hamilton, Texas. A bit of a drive south of Fort Worth, but well worth the drive, Hamilton is a peaceful town that embraces family, spirit, and fun. Reflect on the meaning of the day, get running and once you have finished, enjoy the countless water slides at the ends of The City Park. The race kicks off at 10 a.m. at 116 Bell Street on Saturday, May 26th and wraps up at noon. Stick around, splash, smile and don't forget to take some time for reflection and remembrance.

Try something new this Memorial Day by attending the Memorial Day Block Party held in Oak Cliff. On Sunday, May 27 from noon to 10 p.m., vendors galore will line the streets to show off their crafts, art, eats and treats. Enjoy the spring breeze, good people and share in a wholesome way to spend the weekend.
