Best Ice Skating In DFW

Grab your friends and family and head out for North Texas fun at many of the area's ice skating rinks. Whether you want to mimic your favorite Dallas Stars' athletes or you want to try your hand at Olympic figure skating moves, Dallas-Fort Worth has lots of options for those who want to try their skills on the ice. There are a lot of options that you may not be aware of for the best places to ice skate in DFW.

The Galleria Ice Skating Center is known throughout Dallas-Fort Worth as one of the best places to people watch. Nestled on the bottom floor of the Galleria Dallas, it is known as the "sparkling centerpiece" of the shopping complex surrounded by world class restaurants and stores. It is open year round, but during the Christmas season there is a 95-foot-tall Christmas tree that adorns the center of the rink. Take a lesson, free skate or have a party here for ice skating fun. You may also meet some of the world's most celebrated figure skating athletes at one of the many special events. Skaters that purchase tickets can skate as long as they wish during the public skate session. There is a "No In and Out" policy in effect, meaning skaters cannot leave the rink and come back to skate on the same admission ticket. The Dr. Pepper StarCenter includes five different locations for public ice skating, hockey leagues, figure skating lessons, ice hockey, pickup hockey, broomball curling and more. The Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Frisco is the official home of the Dallas Stars and as such has two NHL-sized sheets of ice. All locations also offer snack bars and concession stands as well as pro shops. The Dr. Pepper Star Center in Farmers Branch is the newest facility and the one most centrally located to Dallas. Not only can kids ice skate during the public hour, but they can also have parties and events here. All locations have a Learn To Skate skating academy that can start kids off at three years old.

Located in the Grapevine Mills Mall, the Polar Ice House is home to two NHL-sized ice skating rinks and home to the area's largest youth hockey association in the Alliance Youth Hockey Association and the Lone Star Wolves. Polar Ice offers an array of public ice skating along with figure skating lessons, hockey leagues and lessons, concession stands and gift shops. Its public sessions vary throughout the week. On Fridays, Polar ice has Rocking Ice Fridays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. where you can skate to music. On Saturday nights, you can skate to a laser light show on Saturday Laser Skate from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It also has a Learn to Skate program for kids ages three and older. This is the only skating rink in Arlington and one of the oldest in DFW. This skating rink has been around since 2002 and boasts a regulation-sized NHL hockey rink. Located at the Parks at Arlington, spectators can view their loved ones down below on balcony seating on the second floor. Kids five years old and younger get to skate for free with a $3 skate rental if they don't already have their own pair of ice skates. Along with hockey, figure skating lessons and public ice skating, groups can hold events here and try their luck at broom ball. It also offers skate camps and private lessons. Look for the rink next to Dick's Sporting Goods in the shopping center.

When the rink in Frisco's Stonebrair Centre closed in 2012, residents quickly got their ice skating fix at the Allen Community Ice Rink. This rink is measures 85' x 200' and is a regular-sized rink that can seat over 300 spectators. Adjacent to the popular Allen Event Center, the ice rink is surrounded by events, concerts and more going on at the center. A popular place for families, the ice rink has locker rooms, meeting rooms, training facilities, pro shops and more. Run by the City of Allen, this facility includes not just ice skating but also hockey, figure skating and more. Open skating varies from day to day and visitors are encourage to check the City of Allen website for open skating session hours.
