You don't have to be a resident of Carrollton in order to enjoy the fitness classes offered at the Carrollton Recreation Center. You also don't have to pay a membership fee. You only pay the class fee. If you want to try something different without stressing out your body, belly dancing might be the way to go. The hour-long beginning and intermediate classes provide core strengthening and are fun. This type of dancing uses completely different muscles than you would use at a gym. The movements help you to feel beautiful. It is easier on your knees than Zumba because the movements are slower and more precise. Everybody is self-conscious initially but once you try it, you get over it and have fun.

The Bodybar's three metroplex locations offer nine different 50-minute classes. The Power Tower class is for a person seeking flexibility. In an hour-and-20-minute Zumba class over 16 weeks, cardiovascular fitness is achieved through international dance movements. Fast and slow dance moves along with cardio exercises tailored to an individual's fitness level help build muscular strength, endurance and flexibility. This is a very intense, on-your-feet, non-stop moving class.

In a pole dance class you do a warm up, learn pole moves i.e., spinning around a pole like a fireman, front hook spin, attitude spin and back hook spin, as well as implement these moves in a free-style dance routine and then a cool down. This 75-minute class helps build upper body strength and fosters confidence. Class sizes are small (under 10 students) so students can receive individualized assistance when needed. There are co-ed as well as women-only classes.
