Family-Friendly DFW St. Patrick's Day Activities
Saint Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious holiday that commemorates Saint Patrick. Celebrated on March 17, Saint Patrick is the most celebrated patron saint from Ireland. Traditionally people will wear the color green and if you are not wearing green, you can get pinched. In Dallas, many of these traditions are a fun way for families to get together and have fun. Here are the top activities for DFW families to celebrate St. Patrick's Day weekend.

This yearly event is a Dallas tradition. In the early morning starting at 8 a.m., the festivities on Greenville Avenue begins with the Dash Down Greenville 5K for walkers and runners. Race proceeds from this event benefit The North Texas Foodbank. After the race, there will be food and a live band. Then the parade kicks off around 11 a.m. where spectators will get to see floats and cheer on bands and more. Starting from Park Lane and Greenville Avenue, the parade travels south on Greenville Avenue, finally ending at SMU Boulevard and Greenville Avenue (just north of Mockingbird Lane). This is a free event.

Dallas-Fort Worth's most family-friendly Saint Patrick's Day event includes activities such as free pony rides, a petting zoo, contests from Radio Disney, games, live bands, gun battle re-enactments and a special parade at 4:30 p.m. The regular daily cattle drive will still be on at 4 p.m. and the special western/Irish parade will follow right after. After the parade, the Legends of Texas will perform a gunfight inside Stockyards Station. There is free admission for all activities.

The Frisco Sunrise Rotary Club holds this annual event to raise funds for local charities. Children eight years old and younger can take part in a 50-yard dash. Families can take part in the one-mile fun run walk or the 5K run. There will be bounce houses, a silent auction and face painting. Runners that participate in the 5K will get free t-shirts, free food from 3 Stacks, free beer from Ben E. Keith Beers and a free ticket to the Texas Legends basketball game all while supplies last. Bring the family and enjoy the fun.

There are two main scheduled trips during this spring break trip that also includes family-on-board activities and games. There will be a 1 p.m. trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards and a 2:45 p.m. Trinity River Run. Climb aboard this vintage-style train and learn about the history of the area as your family enjoys the sights and sounds of the railroad. Tickets start at $20 for adults.

Dallas Blooms is the annual spring festival that goes on at the Dallas Arboretum and nobody does green the way the Arboretum does. Celebrating its 30th anniversary of Dallas Blooms, visitors are greeted to over 500,000 blooming spring bulbs creating a great photographic experience for families. There will be 100 cherry blossom trees and 6,000 azaleas in bloom. The theme is Birds in Paradise and there will be large interactive bird houses on display. On Sunday, March 16, there will be a cherry blossom viewing with family activities and music. You can also check out the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden. Admission rates vary starting at $10 for kids ages three to 12 and $15 for adults. Children's Garden admission is an additional fee of $3.
