Perhaps the most respected Latina artist of the 20th century was Frida Kahlo. She was a revolutionary at heart, deceiving all preconceived concepts of the female experience and form. She was a devout communist in the 1930s and her marriage with equally famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera was often volatile. She is best known for her self portraits, depicting herself with a sullen but strong and stern, unbreaking, black brow. On March 29 at the Lochwood branch of the Dallas Public Library, storyteller Bianca Reyna will guide a group of youngsters and elders alike in creating their own mixed media self portraits in honor of the late Frida Kahlo.
