Best DFW Coffee Shops That Go Beyond Coffee

Coffee shops are best known as places to relax, study or meet with friends while sipping a cup of warm goodness. They have a calm atmosphere and offer a change of scenery from a home, office or library. They bring people together with the promise of caffeine. Then there are coffee shops that go beyond the normal cup of joe. They stick slightly to tradition, but offer a little more. Those are the places you will find in this article. The free Wi-Fi still entices people with laptops in tow, and the community atmosphere beckons for meet-ups with friends. However, these places offer delicious coffee as well as extras like full menus, wine, beer and DJs.

Mudsmith
2114 Greenville Ave.
Dallas, TX 75206
(214) 370-9535
www.facebook.com

Mudsmith serves Four Barrel Coffee, a company committed to social sustainability and direct trade, and who sources from quality green coffee. Coffee isn't the only reason people come though. They are also drawn in by the craft beer and wine on tap. There are sandwiches made fresh daily and bites like the recently featured mini chai tea custard pie. Fresh fruit and vegetable juices like the "Greenville Ave" made with green apple, cucumber, spinach, kale and ginger also make this place unique. Mudsmith opens every morning at 7 a.m. and is open late to satisfy a caffeine need at either end of the clock.

Café Brazil
2880 W. Berry St.
Fort Worth, TX 76109

www.cafebrazil.com

The extensive menu at Café Brazil, combined with the coffeehouse atmosphere, make it a unique place to visit. The unlimited coffee on the coffee bar allows you to fill up on your favorite flavor. The flavors change with the season and the mood of the restaurant. There are also specialty coffee drinks on the menu like the English toffee latte or Snicker bar espresso freeze. The food is far above average too with selections like wine country salad or pancrapes grilled and topped with crème anglaise and raspberry sauce. There are several locations around the Dallas/Fort Worth area and some are even open 24 hours.

This shop serves coffee, tea and specialty drinks of all kinds. For the hot months in Texas, the creators craft iced and frozen beverages for coffee lovers and non-coffee drinkers alike. The food is made fresh in house by expert chefs, resulting in flaky pastries and savory pizza you wouldn't expect to find. The cookies, pastries and pizza toppings change daily, resulting in a greater selection. The shop is located in a historic building downtown Lewisville, which gives it that much more charm.

Ascension
1621 Oak Lawn Ave., Suite A
Dallas, TX 75207
(214) 741-3211
www.ascensioncoffee.com

Coffee shop by day and winery by night. That is the best way to describe Ascension. The coffee is what the owners of Ascension call "farmer-focused coffee" and the wine often comes from boutique wineries. It isn't just drinks though. There is food to satisfy you whether you go for a light breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or dessert. Ascension's policies for the food are equally as strict, serving eggs from only "pasture-raised, organically fed hens." It is located in the Design District near downtown Dallas.

Buzzbrews
2801 E. Commerce St.
Dallas, TX 75226
(214) 741-2801
www.buzzbrews.com

Buzzbrews is named for the feeling you get after sipping a cup of this coffee. Don't let the appearance fool you. It looks like a diner with a coffeehouse menu, but the food is like that of a higher-end cafe. Don't forget the beer, wine and mimosas too. Brunch is a favorite time to visit the restaurant as are late nights after the bars close, since it's open 24 hours. If you don't feel like leaving the house, the Deep Ellum location even delivers to surrounding zip codes. There are also Art & Coffee nights held about once a month inside the restaurant and out with art, DJs, live music and more.
