America's favorite comfort food, the almighty hamburger, has been going through culinary evolution lately and restaurants everywhere are jumping on the better burger bandwagon. Since DFW happens to be a budding burger mecca, local burgerphiles don't have to travel far in order to get their burger fix. If you're looking for burgers that are top of the line, these restaurants are serving up burgers that hit the right spot.

The Grape Restaurant

Dallas, TX 75206

The Grape's specialty is European bistro cuisine, but it's the classic cheeseburger that reigns king. It all starts with the freshness of the in-house ground chuck-eye—a whopping 10 ounces of it that's grilled to order. Then it's topped with a melting layer of Vermont white cheddar cheese and house-made peppered bacon. Finally, everything is tucked inside of a toasted pain au lait bun that's been lightly bathed in a house blend butter and slathered with a creamy Dijonaise sauce. On the side, you'll find fresh Texas hydroponic Bibb lettuce, heirloom tomatoes and a generous order of tasty fries. The only downside is that these award-winning burgers can only be ordered on Sunday and Monday, leaving you high and dry for the rest of the week.

Square Burger
115 N. Kentucky St.
McKinney, TX 75069

At Square Burger, burgers are not just great, they're phenomenal. If you don't go for beef, the lamb, turkey, smoked salmon and Ahi tuna burgers are quite tasty too. But it's the rich, flavorful beef burger here that tops the charts with carnivore connoisseurs. The beef is so fresh that it comes from locally raised corn-fed cows and it's dry aged for 14-20 days before being custom ground and hand delivered by the butcher around the corner. The best burger in the house has to be the blue burger complete with creamy blue cheese, caramelized onion marmalade and arugula on a toasted ciabatta roll. Square Burger draws a mighty crowd, so order up a craft beer or a glass of wine and plan on spending some extra time.

Rodeo Goat

Fort Worth, TX 76107

Don't let the unassuming exterior of this building deter you, the inside of the place is actually quite welcoming, and the burgers will send your taste buds into overdrive. Hamburger combinations border on the bizarre, but obviously the chefs knew what they were doing because it all works together amazingly well. Drop you inhibitions and go for the Ravi Shankar burger with red curry, coriander chutney and peanut butter. Got a sweet tooth? Try the sugar burger. You'd be amazed at how divine a burger can be with grilled peaches, candied bacon, caramelized onions and jalapeno jam. There's also the salty sow, with Italian sausage, prosciutto, basil pesto, mozzarella and balsamic mayo. People say this one is a "culinary-gasm" of flavor. Sure, you can find something a bit more basic, but once you get a taste of the more adventurous selections, you'll never settle for a classic burger again.
