Best Bourbon Cocktails In DFW

Whiskey is one of the most popular types of liquors in the south and it's always fun to try different styles, from the scotches to the bourbons to rye whiskeys. Since September is National Bourbon Heritage Month, it's the perfect time to head to a great bar, cocktail den or pub and enjoy a great bourbon cocktail. The following list includes bars that are not only known for their selection of bourbons but also for the unique and delicious bourbon cocktails on their menu. These cocktails are often a combination of smokey and sweet or citrus and spice that gives you a great flavor combination in the end while embracing the bourbon.

The Common Table
2917 Fairmount St.
Dallas, TX 75201
(214) 880-7414
www.thecommontable.comThe Common Table is a great little place that is actually located in a little house in Uptown Dallas. The food here is a little Southern with lots of comfort and it pairs well with the craft beers, wine and cocktails on the menu. If it's bourbon that you're looking for they have plenty to select from, but as far as cocktails, you have to try their "bramble in the barrel." The cocktail is made with Maker's 46 bourbon, Marie Brizard blackberry, lemon juice, mint and simple syrup. It has the perfect hint of fruit that makes this a great drink for the summer.
Whiskey Cake
3601 Dallas Parkway
Plano, TX 75093
(972) 993-2253
www.whiskey-cake.comAt Whiskey Cake, it is all about farm-to-kitchen cooking and cocktails that come from their 'from scratch only' kitchen. They don't have a microwave back there, and most of their cooking is done the low and slow way. It's also a certified green business. Since "whiskey" is in the name, you know that there is a lot of it here. There are a whole lot of choices when it comes to picking a bourbon, whiskey or scotch. You should try their actual whiskey cake at least once with its bourbon anglaise, but the "hot for teacher" is definitely the cocktail to try here. It's made with hand-selected eagle rare bourbon, cinnamon syrup, baked apple bitters and angostura bitters. It tastes just like an apple pie with an extra kick of cinnamon. Yum!
Nickel & Rye
2523 McKinney Ave.
Dallas, TX 75201
(214) 389-2120
www.nickelandrye.comNickel and Rye is a perfect combination of upscale and comfortable. It's an American pub that sits right in the heart of Uptown that specializes in cocktails, unique local beers, rye whiskeys and a delicious menu of upscale comfort food. They have a long list of whiskeys to choose from here, from rye to bourbon to scotch to specialty and Irish. If you like whiskey, you'll like it here. The list of craft cocktails is full of great choices, but the one you should definitely try is the "maple bacon manhattan" because who doesn't love bacon and bourbon? This cocktail is made with applewood-smoked, bacon-infused Bulleit bourbon, maple syrup, Margerum Amaro and candied bacon. It tastes like breakfast but with bourbon, and it's a perfect choice when you're having brunch.

Standard Pour
2900 McKinney Ave.
Dallas, TX 75204
(214) 935-1370
www.tspdallas.comThe Standard Pour is a popular Uptown Dallas cocktail den and is known as one of the best places in the area to get a whiskey cocktail. Their namesake is a potent combo of George Dickel Rye, house vermouth, Benedictine, orange peel, orange bitters and root beer bitters. This is definitely a must-try if you're looking for something strong. If, however, you're looking for something a little more original that still has you drinking a great bourbon cocktail, I would recommend the bourbon root fizz. It is made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, cream, root beer and a lemon twist. It has interesting flavors and lets you experience a cocktail that puts a nice twist on a classic of the 1930s.
Victor Tango's
3001 North Henderson Ave.
Dallas, TX 75206
(214) 252-8595
www.victortangos.comThis neighborhood bar is hard to describe. It's upscale yet comfortable, unique yet approachable. It's a great place to try new things and have new experiences without getting too far out of your comfort zone. It's known for the inventive cocktail list, but the food is great to pair with a good cocktail off the menu. If you come here because you like the upscale feeling and you're into classy drinks, you'll probably enjoy "the dapper Dan." This cocktail is made with Texas bourbon, chai-infused Averna and orange oils. It's a great combination of spice and smoke and fruit and is very unique.
