The Department of Veterans Affairs for the observance of Veterans Day has designated the City of Dallas as an official regional site. The theme for the Dallas Veterans Day Parade is "Honoring Our Wounded Veterans." The theme honors all wounded by the effects of war including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as those who suffered physical trauma. Gold Star Mothers (mothers who have lost their children in service to the country) will also be honored. Grand Marshals for the parade are Vice Admiral David B. Robinson, USN (Ret.), Corporal Jack Schick USA and Sergeant Vince Rios USA. Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is the scheduled principal speaker for this event. Military displays will be available for viewing at 9:30 a.m., the Oath of Enlistment will occur at 10:50 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with a wreath laying, the playing of Taps and a Mission Man Formation military flyover followed by comments from civic and military leaders. The parade will start at 11:20 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m. people will gather, and at 10 a.m. the Veterans Day ceremony will commence. Brigadier General Leon Johnson is the scheduled speaker with veterans' interviews from the audience to be conducted by Chaplin Jerry Poteet. Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen will present the Proclamation and greeting. Members of the community of Grand Prairie that served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War will act as column and color guards. The ceremony includes a bagpiper, trumpeter, a 21-gun salute and a flyover. A free lunch courtesy of the Metro Rotary and Grand Prairie Rotary Clubs will be served after the ceremony.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has officially designated the City of Ft. Worth as a regional site for the observance of Veterans Day. The Tarrant County Veterans Council hosts the Tarrant County Veterans Day Parade in Ft. Worth. This year's theme is "Honoring Our Flag: 200th Anniversary of Our National Anthem." LTC Lawrence K. Casey, Jr., will serve as the Grand Marshal. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. on North Main Street and the opening ceremony in Sundance Square starts at 11 a.m. Some of the participating groups in this year's parade include the Texas Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, Military Vehicle Club of North Texas, the Military Order of the World Wars, Sons of the American Revolution and American Heritage Girls.
