Benitez Disciplined By MLS For Preseason Incident

FRISCO (Sports Network) - FC Dallas defender Jair Benitez and Real Salt Lake defender Jamison Olave were disciplined by Major League Soccer for two separate incidents during preseason, it was announced on Wednesday.

Benitez has been suspended for one game - Dallas' season opener against Chicago on Saturday - and fined $500 for his actions during a preseason match against the Houston Dynamo on Feb. 12. He was originally assessed a two-game ban, but after the MLS Players Union filed an appeal, commissioner Don Garber reduced the suspension to one game.

Olave was fined $250 for public criticism of a league official via social media following a preseason game against Sporting Kansas City on March 8.
