Beck Puts Politics Aside For 'Restoring Love'
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Volunteers from across the country are expected to start arriving in North Texas on Thursday at the request of conservative media personality Glenn Beck. His event called 'Restoring Love' is aimed at fixing the nation's problems through community service. It culminates Saturday night with a gathering at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
Beck, who now calls North Texas home, is best known for his conservative -- and often controversial -- political views. But this weekend is not about politics, he explained. It is about putting those political differences aside to help serve each other in the community. "It's important to reach across all boundaries that normally separate us," Beck said. "Christians, Jews, Atheists... I don't care. I really don't. Time to put our differences aside just like Thomas Payne and John Adams did. I'll meet with anybody. I'll stand with anybody."
While Beck and his nonprofit multimedia production company, Mercury One, are organizing the overall event, they are not facilitating the weekend service projects. Instead, they have reached out to local organizations and area churches, and asked them, "What would you do if you had unlimited manpower for one day?"
After days of various service projects, volunteers will pack Cowboys Stadium on Saturday for a night of reflection. Event host Beck will recognize the labors of love within the community. This 'Restoring Love' gathering is expected to draw thousands of people to the DFW area.
Participation in 'Restoring Love' is free, but a $10 ticket is required for the gathering at Cowboys Stadium. Click here for more information about the event.
