Baylor's Odyssey Gets Top-Ranked Lady Bears Going
WACO (AP) -- Before 6-foot-8 junior phenom Brittney Griner gets the ball for undefeated Baylor, Odyssey Sims often gets everything started.
Sims usually works the ball up the court and makes a pass. But if opposing teams are intent on surrounding Griner with multiple defenders, the feisty point guard can just as easily make a jumper or drive to the basket herself.
As a freshman last season, Sims helped Baylor get to an NCAA regional final before a loss to eventual national champ Texas A&M.
The Lady Bears (34-0) haven't lost since and are the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA women's tournament. They play Sunday against UC-Santa Barbara (17-15) in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Sims is averaging 14.8 points and 4.6 assists a game, both numbers better than last year.
