Baylor's Griffin Back At Practice & Feeling Good

WACO (AP) - Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III has practiced this week with no lingering effects from the concussion-like symptoms that knocked the Heisman Trophy hopeful out of the 19th-ranked Bears' last game.

"I was able out to get back out there and let myself know I was OK," Griffin said Wednesday, a day after getting back on the field. "I felt OK, I was walking around OK. But I hadn't run or thrown the football for a whole half of football and some days. To go out there and practice the way we did, high tempo, no headaches, none of that stuff, I was fine."

Griffin went through another full practice Wednesday.

The Bears (8-3, 5-3 Big 12), who have won four games in a row, play their regular season finale at home Saturday against Texas (7-4, 4-4).

Griffin didn't play in the second half of Baylor's 66-42 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday. He took a hard hit to the helmet just before halftime, though he was only out one play then before going back in and immediately scoring on a 3-yard keeper for a 31-21 lead.

When Griffin got a more thorough medical exam at halftime, team doctors determined that he needed to sit out the rest of the game and took away his helmet. Griffin was still on the sideline, smiling and even getting a kiss on the cheek from coach Art Briles at the end of the game.

"He said `I like the look in your eyes, Griff,' because my eyes were a little glossy before," Griffin said.

Briles said Griffin was back to himself at practice, like nothing had changed.

"Honestly, we felt like he was good the other night," Briles said before practice Wednesday. "Toward the end of the game, he just got better as the game went on. But you never know until you get verification. Verification came through the tests and through the doctors, and just by Robert how he felt, and how he responded."

Griffin has accounted for 4,290 total yards and 41 touchdowns (34 passing, seven rushing) with only five interceptions in 347 attempts this season.

After a school-record 551 total yards against Oklahoma the week before, Griffin completed 7 of 11 passes for 106 yards with a touchdown and ran 14 times for 62 yards and two TDs in a half against Texas Tech.
