Barry Switzer Says Jimmy 'Cheated On' Jerry
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- The majority of Cowboys fans blame Jerry Jones for the nasty divorce with two-time Super Bowl winning coach Jimmy Johnson. But Barry Switzer made one thing clear on Tuesday -- it was Jimmy, not Jerry, that 'cheated'.
Switzer joined New School on 105.3 The Fan to defend his former boss and clear up the events that led to Johnson's departure.
"Why do you think that they got a divorce?" said Switzer. "Jimmy is the one that cheated on him. If you want to talk about a marriage here -- you go back and look at all the negative things that [Jimmy] said...the things he did and the way he treated Jerry -- and he's the owner."

"Jimmy and Jerry had a poor relationship, and Jerry finally got fed up with it, sucked up his gut, and fired his ass," said Switzer. "A bunch of coaches won't even speak to Jerry because they're worried about Jimmy getting on their ass or firing their ass -- I'm telling you. That's how it was."
Switzer acknowledges that both men made mistakes in handling the situation, but he also points to Jones' three Super Bowl rings over the last 25 years. Not many owners can claim that.
On the 25 year anniversary of Jones buying the Cowboys, Switzer also took issue with a number misconceptions floating around about the owner.
"He doesn't interfere with the coaches. He doesn't have anything to do with coaching the team. He doesn't tell you the play, what schemes to run, how to set the board -- the draft board. He leaves that up to the people that know what they're doing -- the scouts, the coaches that evaluate."
Switzer believes that a number of owners in the NFL don't care about winning a Super Bowl, but instead focus on turning a profit. That can't be said for Jones.
"[Some owners] just take their share of what the NFL provides for them in the contracts, and go on about their business and live their life. Jerry is a competitor and he always will be."
It's that competitiveness -- from Jimmy and Jerry -- that has led to a two-decade long argument surrounding who deserves credit for the Cowboys' three Super Bowl victories in the 90's.
But to those who like to credit Jimmy for the team's Super Bowl XXX win -- in which Switzer was the man in charge...
"Those people are insignificant to me so I don't really give a damn what they think. Those 53 players on the team, and that coaching staff, and those people at Valley Ranch -- they're the ones that won the damn Super Bowl. We don't give a damn whether anybody else thought we got the job done. When it was all over with, we won the championship."
