Bank Robbery Suspect Kills Self After Fleeing Scene

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man suspected of attempting to rob a North Dallas bank shot and killed himself in his vehicle Monday after leading officers on a chase that ended near the Dallas North Tollway.

A Dallas Police Department spokesman said authorities received a report of a robbery  at about 12:15 p.m. Monday at the Sterling Bank in the 5000 block of Verde Valley Lane.

The suspect, 26-year-old Khalifa King, unsuccessfully tried to rob the same bank last Friday. When he walked through the doors Monday, bank employees recognized him, locked the doors and called police.

Police found King fleeing from the garage parking lot and gave chase. King made it to another parking lot along Harvest Hill Road near the Dallas North Tollway, where he locked himself inside his vehicle and fatally shot himself in the head.

Police believe King may be involved with other bank robberies in the area and are investigating.
