Bank Robbery Suspect Killed After Police Chase
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - It began when an off-duty police officer spotted a pickup truck wanted in connection with a Fort Worth bank robbery.
It's believed a man and woman in the truck had just robbed the Woodhaven National Bank, in the 6700 block of Bridge Street.
When the off-duty officer spotted the suspicious vehicle he called for help. Members of the Fort Worth Police Department soon gave chase.
The vehicle sped into southeast Fort Worth, west of Lake Arlington, but at one point apparently stopped briefly.
"We do know that a female, that was inside the suspect vehicle, was let out at some point during the pursuit," explained FWPD spokesperson Sergeant Pedro Criado.
The chase ended near a creek bed when the truck became stuck in a ditch. The male suspect then jumped from the vehicle and ran.
"At some point during the foot pursuit the suspect turned around, pulled out a gun and fired shots at the officers," said Criado. "One of the officers in turn returned fire, striking the suspect."
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The search continues for the female truck passenger.
