Banjo Player Sentenced In Texas Enticement Case

DALLAS CBSDFW.COM/(AP) — A musician from Tennessee has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison for trying to entice minors into having sex with him in Texas.

Prosecutors in Dallas say Abraham Eugene Spear of Nashville, Tenn., communicated online and by cellphone with a person he thought would arrange a tryst with two girls. Undercover officers posed as the "mother" of the children in the sting.

The 31-year-old banjo player was arrested last September in Dallas where he had traveled for a performance at a club. Spear in February pleaded guilty to attempted enticement of a minor. A judge in Dallas on Friday sentenced Spear to 210 months behind bars.

Investigators say Spear formerly performed with the Josh Thompson band.
