USGS Confirms 3.0-Magnitude Quake Near Azle

AZLE / RENO (CBSDFW.COM) - A 3.0-magnitude earthquake rattled areas around Azle Tuesday, causing concern for residents but leaving no reports of damage.

The temblor was confirmed early Wednesday by the U.S. Geological Survey, which put the center of the quake one mile north-northwest of Azle.

Just before noon, residents reported windows rattling and items shaking on shelves. Reno Mayor Lynda Stokes was not in the city at the time, but was told the shaking was the strongest in the north part of the city.

Online data from a system of temporary seismic monitors deployed around Azle appeared to show a spike just before 11:55 a.m. A research team deployed monitors after a swarm of earthquakes started hitting in November.

The last widely reported quake in the area was a 3.1 magnitude quake centered in Reno on January 13. Residents have focused on waste water injection wells near the epicenter as the likely cause of the shaking.
