Suspect In Custody After Chase In Stolen Tractor-Trailer Cab In Tarrant County
HALTOM CITY, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A person is in custody after leading authorities on a chase through Tarrant County in a stolen tractor-trailer cab.
Authorities said the chase started in Haltom City near 183 and Norwood. The chase went through numerous streets throughout the county but not on any highways. Police followed the stolen vehicle through Fort Worth, Hurst, Richland Hills and Saginaw.
The chase ended back in Haltom City near Broadway and Aurora despite police having to use alternative techniques to slow it down.
"Obviously as heavy as it is, if it hits vehicles it could do some major damage," Sgt. Eric Peters from Haltom City Police said. "It could potentially injure people too. So trying to hit the tires with spikes strips could be dangerous for officers too just because of the sheer size of the vehicle and obviously we can't try to force it off the road or anything like that because its much bigger than any vehicles we drive."
The driver, 34-year-old Travis Brandon, ran from the vehicle but only got a short distance before officers apprehended him.
Brandon suffered minor injuries during the chase and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police released the vehicle to the owner who had reported it stolen from a Fort Worth gas station.
According to an incident from Fort Worth, the truck's keys were in the door when it was taken.
The tractor-trailer hit two vehicles during the chase in Hurst but no injuries have been reported from that collision.
Brandon faces charges from both Forth Worth and Haltom City, including Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest with a Vehicle.
