Attorney Interested In Dallas DA Job Asks Gov. Abbott For Waiver

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas attorney vying for the vacant district attorney seat has asked the governor for a waiver so she can apply.
Governor Greg Abbott will appoint a replacement after former Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk resigned this month. Her resignation came one week after the deadline that would allow voters to pick her replacement in November's general election.
It's now be up to Gov. Greg Abbott to appoint a replacement to serve out the rest of her term. And one requirement for the job is that a candidate must have lived in Dallas County for at least 6 months.
But Dallas attorney Dianne Kathryn Jones McVay said she has a home in North Carolina that's she's selling. However she has lived with friends in Dallas and Denton since 2014.
"I have ties to Dallas. I have an office in Dallas. I moved here in 1986 and left in 2010 but moved back in 2014. I have always lived in Dallas. I went to SMU," said McVay.
Jones McVay said she felt she should ask the governor for the waiver because the office needs stability.
"It's very difficult to work in an office when there is uncertainty. You are uncertain on who is going to be your boss, whether your boss is going to be there and whether you are going to lose your job," she explained.
Jones McVay is an attorney and former misdemeanor court judge. She was also a former federal prosecutor and public defender.
Ten other attorneys said they are seeking the office, including Jennifer Balido and Danny Clancy.
