Attempt To Serve Warrant Ends With Chase & Suspect Suicide

GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - A wanted man on the run... a driver carjacked... a police chase and gunfire. Those were the sequence of events in Garland this afternoon.
Members of the Garland Police Department were backing the U.S. Marshall's Service as they attempted to serve several outstanding felony warrants. The wanted man, Derrin Bernard Adams, was able to elude authorities and carjack a passerby.
The 32-year-old suspect fled from the area in the stolen vehicle, getting onto the Interstate-30 service road, with Garland police in pursuit.
The police chase ended when the suspect wrecked the vehicle at a gas station near I-30 and Point. The impact of the crash was enough to cause the airbags in the vehicle to deploy.
According to authorities, Adams got out of the car with a gun in his hand and ran behind the gas station. As he continued to flee, Adams jumped a fence separating the gas station from the Landmark at Lake Village East apartment complex. Once on the property, two Garland police officers confronted Adams, who then turned the gun on himself and fired.
Adams died at the scene. No one else was injured.
Garland police spokesperson Joe Harn confirmed that no officers fired their weapons.
Authorities have not released any information on the uninjured carjacking victim.
