FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Fort Worth are looking for two suspects who stole an ATM from a convenience store early Thursday morning, with one suspect already in custody. It happened at around 4:45 a.m. at the Circle K location in the 1200 block of Oakland Boulevard, along Interstate-30 in the eastern part of the city.
The store's clerk said that he heard a loud boom, and then watched the crime unfold.
Witnesses from across the street stated that a white Chevrolet pickup truck crashed through the store's front glass door, and three masked men jumped out and lifted the ATM onto the truck's bed. The suspects then quickly drove away from the scene.
One of the suspects was arrested later Thursday morning in Dallas.
A police officer spotted a white pickup truck at another gas station near the intersection of Highway 175 and Elsie Faye Heggins Street. A short chase ensued, but ended when the truck stalled out along the highway. A suspect jumped from the vehicle and started to flee on foot, but was caught and arrested a few blocks away.
Police in Dallas said that the truck had an ATM in its bed, and had damage that was consistent with the earlier incident in Fort Worth.
Meanwhile, the store clerk was not injured, but said that he was really shaken up by this incident. He rushed to another nearby gas station, and the clerk there called 911. There were no customers inside of the Circle K store at the time of the ATM theft.
Authorities will look over the store's security camera footage on Thursday for more clues about the suspects. The Circle K will be closed throughout Thursday.
Kat Patrick stops by the Fort Worth convenience store every day, and knows the people who work there. "This is crazy," she said upon learning about the ATM theft. "I was almost about to cry because I thought my friends were hurt. That's the most important thing. My friends work in this store and I thought they were hurt."
Patrick added that the stolen ATM had an 'out of order' sign on Wednesday. "No money in it. It was broke. It was out of order," she said. "It was broke yesterday when I came and got gas yesterday. The ATM machine was broke."
