ATF Investigating Blaze That Trapped & Killed Dallas Firefighter
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - CBS 11 News has learned federal agents are now investigating the six-alarm condominium fire in which a Dallas firefighter was trapped and killed.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are now on scene at the Hearthwood Condominiums in northeast Dallas to figure out how the May 20th blaze began. Agents looking into the blaze at the 24-unit condominium complex are part of the same national response team who responded to the fire and explosion at the West Fertilizer Company plant on April 17. The blast there killed 15 people and injured 200 others.
Monday night officials with Dallas Fire Rescue sent a request to ATF officials about looking into the incident further. So far, there is no indication the fire was arson.
Firefighter Stanley Wilson, a 28-year veteran firefighter, died after becoming rapped inside one of the burning units. Wilson worked as a second driver and engineer out of Station 53 in East Dallas. Wilson, who leaves behind a wife and two teenage sons, is being called a hero by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings.
