At Least 8 Killed In South Texas Charter Bus Crash

LAREDO (CBSDFW.COM) — A charter bus crash in South Texas has left at least eight people dead.
The accident happened on Highway 83 North, near Laredo.
In addition to the eight dead some 40 other people were injured when the bus apparently rolled over.
The bus was based in South Texas and headed to a casino more than a 100 miles northwest of Laredo.
The Webb County Volunteer Fire Department and units from the City of Laredo responded to the call.
Highway 83 was closed while the recue and investigation was underway.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board will be assisting with the investigation.
After the crash Governor Greg Abbot issued the following statement -
"Cecilia and I extend our deepest condolences to those affected by the tragic accident in South Texas today. I ask the entire State of Texas to keep the families of loved ones lost today, as well as the Dimmit County community, in its thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
