At Capacity, Rowlett Animal Shelter May Start Euthanizing Animals

ROWLETT (CBS 11 NEWS) -- A bark for help is coming from Rowlett where the animal shelter is at capacity and they may have to start euthanizing animals.

With room for just one more stray dog, the city will start euthanizing for the first time in recent memory once the shelter exceeds capacity, employees said Wednesday.

The shelter says they need to move the animals into homes as fast as possible.

Employees are even using their own money to help transport animals to new homes across the country.

With new billboards, reduced fees and even telemarketing, the city's promotional efforts are helping during a time when employees say more dogs are being simply abandoned by their owners.

They are currently having to turn away owner surrenders.
