Assistant AG Wants To Remember The Alamo

AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) - A state official is reminding a group of prominent Texans they need to 'Remember The Alamo' when fundraising.

Assistant State Attorney General Daniel Hodge worries that the Daughters of the Republic of Texas no longer have the resources, nor the means to raise them, to continue to maintain and preserve the Alamo.

Hodge says fundraising that is just one concern. "While the DRT was working hard to obtain resources necessary to preserve the Alamo, it was reported last June that they also were scrambling to raise $1.3 Million that they needed in eight months for a purpose unrelated to the Alamo."

San Antonio Senator Jeff Wentworth defends the group. "I just want to express my gratitude for what they've done for over 100 years." And they've done it says Wentworth, without a dime of taxpayers money. "They could have done a lot more had the state appropriated appropriate financial resources, which we have not done."

Hodge says that fundraising should focus on the Alamo because maintaining and preserving it should be the DRT's number one priority.
