Ask An Expert: Kids Spring Fashion In DFW

Grown-ups aren't the only ones with an eye for fashion. When it comes to the latest styles, kids like to look their best too, and no one understands that better than Kat Armstrong, creator of the popular children's accessory company, Baby Bow Tie.

Kat Armstrong is not only the Co-founder of Polish, a popular professional women's organization, but she's also the creator of Baby Bow Tie, a one year old company specializing in accessories for kids and pets. Baby Bow Tie grew out of Armstrong's motivation to make her own little gentleman look stylishly dapper. Since its inception last year, the company has gained national attention, amassing accounts in over 100 specialty boutiques nationwide, including Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. Along with accenting your child's wardrobe with Baby Bow Tie's line of stylishly chic magnetic bow ties, Armstrong shares her top picks of stylish necessities to keep your young fashionistas on trend this spring season.

Pleated Floral Skirts

Floral is a spring staple, so expect to see a variety of kids apparel sporting flower power this season. Armstrong likes the latest line of floral skirts, especially the pleated ones, which she says are making a strong fashion statement. For a great selection of adorable pleated skirts for juniors and younger fashion mavens, check out Belk in the Galleria.

Denim Rompers

Designers have been going wild with showing jumpsuits or rompers on the catwalk, specifically made of denim— which are versatile enough to be dressed up or down with accessories. Armstrong suggests stores like Gap and Nordstrom for finding the most variety of girls stylish rompers.

Metallics

Designers have turned the spotlight up on metallics this season not only for adult fashions, but for young style-setters as well. Though, Armstrong cautions that too much glam can overpower any spring outfit, so she says to keep the pop of metallics to just accessories. Baby Bow Tie's awesome collection of purple, pink and gold metallic no-slip hair bows and adjustable soft headbands are ideal for adding just the right amount of bling.

Fringe

Designers have been having a field day with fringe for several seasons now, and the stringy fashion trend is hotter than ever for spring. Everything from skirts and shorts to T-shirts and swimsuits are rocking out with fringe, but, Armstrong says to go easy with it or you'll have your princess looking like a mop. Instead, keep things low-key by styling a fringe shirt with a pair of denim shorts. Or check out Zara at the Galleria for a great selection of fringe apparel and accessories.

Tiger leggings For Girls And Colorful Socks For Boys

Animal prints have been all the rage this winter, and the trend is set to continue throughout the spring and summer season this year. Armstrong believes that just about any outfit can be taken from drab to fab with a pair of fashionable tiger print leggings, and suggests the cotton Bengali tiger print leggings from the Tea Collection to carry the style right through the summer. For dapper dudes, Armstrong is all over the eclectic array of Whippersnappers socks from Dallas based company, Foot Cardigan, where a monthly membership of $11 offers kids two pairs of colorful socks each month.
