Arrests Made In Flower Mound Home Invasion

FLOWER MOUND (CBSDFW.COM) - Law enforcement officials have made three arrests in a home invasion case in Flower Mound, but the search continues on Monday for an additional suspect. The incident happened just after 9:00 p.m. on Sunday night in the 5600 block of Suncrest Drive.
A family of six people live at the home. Officials explained that masked suspects armed with handguns forced their way into the residence and ordered everybody into the living room. "There was a knock at the door," said Capt. Wess Griffin with the Flower Mound Police Department. "When they answered the door, three men forced their way into the house. The fourth individual retreated back to a vehicle."
A family member was able to call 911 for help. The suspects reportedly stole cash and jewelry. One family member was punched during the invasion and treated at the scene. No serious injuries were reported.
The three suspects who entered the home fled the scene on foot into Lewisville. According to authorities, they carjacked a man in the 1500 block of Sunswept Terrace and then headed into Carrollton. Police spotted the stolen car and a short foot pursuit ensued. Two of the suspects were then caught in Carrollton during that chase.
The third arrested suspect is a 19-year-old woman who did not enter the home. She was apprehended in Flower Mound by the first responding officers. Officials are still looking for one of the suspects involved in this case. That man was last seen in Coppell.
Authorities are also trying to determine if the Flower Mound case is related to three recent home invasions in Allen, all of which took place in the span of about an hour on Saturday night. The thieves targeted homes along Philip Drive, Rio Grande Drive and Wrotham Lane.
In those Allen cases, the victims -- including children -- were bound with duct tape and held at gunpoint. While nobody was physically hurt, the families were left traumatized.
"We don't have anything definitive at this time that tells us that they definitely are related," warned Griffin, "but we are communicating with the Allen Police Department and some other area agencies that have had similar offenses in order to see if we can connect those."
Police described the Allen suspects as heavyset black males wearing ski masks, gloves and long sleeves. They may have been driving a black van and a black four-door sedan.
In addition to similar suspect descriptions, Griffin explained that all of the homes which have been targeted so far have belonged to Indian families. "We've seen similar offenses involving that ethnic group," he stated, "specifically they look for jewelry and cash in the home, because they know that they keep a lot of heirloom jewelry."
Authorities are asking homeowners in Flower Mound, Lewisville, Carrollton and other North Texas cities to check any security cameras to see if anything suspicious was recorded.
Meanwhile, two schools in Carrollton delayed their start times on Monday in order to ensure that kids were safe. Arbor Creek Middle School and Indian Creek Elementary School, located not even a mile apart from each other, both began at 10:00 a.m. after police determined that the area was clear.
But earlier, a man who lives across the street from the elementary school said that he heard someone -- possibly one of the suspects -- trying to break into his home before police arrived. "We were very scared and the kids were worried and wondering if it was safe to come to school," added parent Sylvia Negrete. "But we got the all-clear to come in, so we are hoping everything is okay."
