Arrest Report Released In Erath County Sniper Killing

STEPHENVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - The arrest report for the man accused of killing Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield over the weekend has been released.

The report for Eddie Ray Routh was released Monday afternoon by the Erath County Sheriff's Office, and shows Routh has been charged with first degree murder or the deaths of Kyle and Littlefield at the Rough Creek Lodge shooting range on Saturday.

Kyle, the former Navy Seal, was well known by CBS 11 viewers, having spoke with Doug Dunbar last year about his time as America's deadliest sniper, and about his reasons for leaving the military.

According to the arrest warrant, Somervell County 911 Operators received a 911 call about the shooting at the nearby lodge that is just over the Erath County line around 5:30 Saturday afternoon.

The two men were found at the gun range dead, covered in blood and having been shot multiple times. There were a number of guns near the men.

Routh's sister told the Erath County Sheriff Routh called her, saying he was driving toward her home in Midlothian and wanted to come talk with her. Once he arrived he told his sister and her husband that he killed Kyle and Littlefield and had "traded his soul in for a truck."

Routh's sister and brother-in-law urged Routh to turn himself in, but he declined, saying he would instead go to Oklahoma to avoid Texas authorities.

After Routh left his sister's house, she called Midlothian police.

Police reports out of Dallas and Lancaster suggest a troubled past for Routh.

Dallas police on Monday released two reports showing Eddie Routh had trespassed at an apartment on Churchill Way in January. Parts of the reports are blacked out, but police apparently had to talk Routh into leaving.

Lancaster police have already released reports showing Routh had to be taken to a mental hospital in September for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Routh remains jailed in Erath County under suicide watch after being arrested at his home in Lancaster Saturday evening.
