Arrest Made In Sept. 2013 Melissa Woman Murder
MELISSA (CBSDFW.COM) - An arrest was made Friday in Melissa, Texas in connection to the Sept. 9, 2013 murder of a single mother.
Kevin Michael Adams, 50, of Frisco is charged with capital murder and is being held in Collin County at the sheriff's office detention center.
The Melissa Police Department worked alongside the U.S. Marshal Service's Fugitive Apprehension Task Force and the Texas Rangers to make the arrest.
Adams is believed to have killed Nicole Leger, 34, who was found dead in her home on the 3000 block of Maple Lane by her high school-aged son in September.
Leger died from two gunshot wounds to her face, according to the affidavit for arrest warrant in the case.
Adams, who was formerly engaged to Leger, was quickly considered a person of interest in the case.
According to the Denton County District Attorney's office, Leger was attacked by Adams at his Frisco home in March.
He allegedly drugged Leger's food, tied her up in the garage and raped her. He was charged with aggravated sexual assault and unlawful restraint.
When Adams posted bond and left jail, Leger was issued an emergency protective order.
Police believe that Leger's death was a retaliation by Adams in order to stop her from testifying in the sexual assault case.
Leger's high school junior son said Adams threatened to kill his mother, prompting their move to Melissa to hide from him while the Denton County case moved forward.
However, in April, the Denton DA office says, Adams allegedly violated his restraining order when he sent Leger a card and flowers.
Initially, Adams was arrested two days after Leger's death in Frisco on an unrelated traffic charge. But FPD say he posted bond and was released later that same day.
DNA voluntarily collected from Adams during the aggravated sexual assault case links him to the Leger residence in Melissa, which Adams was supposed to have not known about.
The warrant states that a condom recovered from the homicide scene contained DNA that belonged to Adams.
Investigators say they were also able to link the case to Adams by ammo that matched to the two bullets that struck Leger in the head.
Police say Adams had a "very extensive" collection of firearms, which included fully automatic weapons and silenced weapons of large and small caliber.
Adam's ex-wife, Gina Noble, pointed investigators to a storage facility in Euless that she alleged was filled with more firearms and ammunition.
Noble told police she was approached by Adams and was asked to help him put these firearms and ammunition in the storage facility.
Crime lab forensic personnel matched the markings found on the ammunition in the storage facility to that of the bullets found in Leger's body. The forensic scientist also said the cartridge casings from both ammunition had been loaded into the same magazine.
