Grapevine was named for the wild Mustang grapes that covered the prairies when settlers arrived in the mid-1840's. This year Grapevine celebrates the 30th annual Grapevine Grapefest with fun for the whole family.
"If you're interested in sampling some wine or if you want to bring the kids out, there is activities and fun for everybody all weekend long" said Leigh Lyons of the Grapevine Convention and Visitor Bureau.
As usual, Texas wines will be on parade this year, but an Australian Wine Ambassador is visiting from the land down under. He brings his taste and talent to Grapevine Grapefest and has sampled wines from all over the world.
"Purely for research purposes of course, I would hate to think it was actually work" said Australian Wine Ambassador Stuart Bourne.
Stuart believes and teaches that good wine comes from good grapes which starts with good soil. He will lead tastings and classes all weekend on the nuances of great wine.
"Mother Earth provides and a person only guides. For me, as a winemaker, the whole journey has been about the love of science and the love of agriculture. That whole grape to glass journey has been something that has just fascinated me" Stuart added.
There is tons for the kids to do like the Midway rides, Legoland Discovery Center and Sea Life Grapevine Aquarium's touch pool.
For the grown up's there is the People's Choice Wine Tasting Classic where you can taste 140 Texas wines from 40 Texas Wineries. Grapevine Grapefest is free until 5 pm Friday and runs through Sunday.
