As most of us try to escape the summer heat, at the DFW Airport Fire Training Research center they walk right into it. It's all part of training the DFW Fire Department as well as firefighters from 44 US States and 44 countries around the world.
"The firefighters will experience about 1500 degrees Fahrenheit heat at the very edge of the pit when it's fully engulfed" said DFW Fire Battalion Chief Randal Rhodes.
You will occasionally see columns of smoke rising from the DFW Training Center, but it is completely safe and completely under control.
