Corps Decides Against Releasing More Water From Lake Lewisville

LAKE LEWISVILLE(CBS11) - Water keeps gushing out of the Lake Lewisville spillway on its own.

Brian Brown of Flower Mound says, "It's roaring pretty good." It's become a sight to see.

Brown says, "There are some guys down there fishing and there are people taking pictures.  This is definitely a spectacle."

A spectacle people can only see if they walk past this sign that warns them not to trespass.

Lake Lewisville stood at more than 534 feet Tuesday, two feet above flood pool, and 12 feet above what's normally considered full.

Because of the rising water, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers planned to open the flood gates at Lake Lewisville late in the day Tuesday. But the Corps changed its mind because of concerns about conditions downstream.

From Lake Lewisville, the water will flow downstream into the Trinity River, which is rising to levels we last saw eight years ago.

Robert Jones remembers when the lake rose even higher when he was a kid, and now he's bringing his son Riley to see it. "You come out here, you check it out, all the water over the spillway and you just wonder where it's all going so I think people want to see it for themselves."

Brian Brown calls the quick transition from drought to deluge, "Pretty impressive, this is a pretty rare occasion."
