ARLINGTON (CBS11) - It's one of the most unusual cases of shoplifting you will ever see. One where the suspect walks away and store employees possibly in big trouble.
That's because a Walmart cashier recorded video of the alleged crime and appeared to be taunting the shoplifter. One of the employees involved has resigned and an investigation is underway.
Employees of an Arlington Walmart didn't just observe a case of alleged shoplifting, they recorded video of it with their personal phones and made questionable comments as it was happening. When the woman they are watching starts walking out of the store with suspected stolen items employees confront her and grab her bag.
The taunting continues and once outside the store an unidentified woman walks up and starts fighting with the suspected shoplifter.
But the employee keeps the camera rolling and eventually stops the recording. The video was later posted on the Walmart employee's Facebook page.
The retailer issued a statement to CBS 11 News:
"This type of behavior by a Walmart associate is completely unacceptable. We are conducting an internal investigation into this matter at this time and will take action as appropriate," says Brian Nick Director, Walmart National Media Relations
Walmart did not say how many employees are under investigation.
The employee who posted the video has responded on Facebook by saying quote "Why Walmart corporate tryna flex on me"
