Arlington Requiring Permits To Access Tornado-Damaged Areas

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -  Arlington is limiting access to tornado-damaged areas of the city.

The city says as of today it is setting up "controlled access points" into the affected areas.

If you don't have a permit, you're not getting in.

Today only, residents can get permits at the checkpoints. They must show proof of residency, which can be anything from a state ID card to mail addressed to their home.

Starting Thursday, residents must have permanent access permits. Police are issuing those at the West Police Service Station, at 2060 W. Green Oaks Blvd.

Contractors and laborers will have to get permits at Arlington's South Police Service Station, at 1030 SW Green Oaks Blvd.

The city is also prohibiting news media from entering the damaged areas. City officials say they will provide scheduled, escorted tours of the areas for news media.
