Arlington Police Arrest Group Home Worker For Resident's Death
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Late last month police in Arlington were called to a group home where they found the body of one of its resident's in an SUV, parked outside the facility. Investigators have now arrested an employee of the home for the death.
Police arrested group home employee Debra King and charged her with Injury to a Disabled Person – Recklessness/Serious Bodily Injury.
It was July 25, 2013 when officers went to the 6500 block of El Dorado Drive and found the body of Terrence Sanders. The SUV he was inside was not running and the temperature in the vehicle was very hot.
As police began to look into Sander's death they discovered that on same day he was found dead several resident's of the group home had been taken to an off-site location for the day. They were transported to and from the location in the SUV.
Officers say for some reason Sanders was not dropped off at the destination and stayed in the vehicle. It wasn't until some six hours later that an employee, preparing to pick up the group home residents discovered Sanders unresponsive.
Police allege King was the person responsible for the care of Sanders and two other group home residents. The 54-year-old woman turned herself in at the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday night. She was released on $25,000 bail.
Officials say the group home cares for people with special needs and Mr. Sanders is believed to have had the mental capacity of a young child.
