Arlington Officer & 2 Others Shot In SWAT Incident
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - An Arlington SWAT officer was injured, the suspect was shot and killed, and a hostage was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, all after police from two cities tried to execute an arrest warrant on Tuesday night.
Officials said that Arlington Police Tactical Officer Bryan Graham is in stable condition at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Sources told CBS 11 News that the officer's body armor may have saved his life. Graham was hit in the right eyebrow area of his face. Sources said that the bullet entered the officer's helmet and went around the right side of the helmet, grazing his head.
According to Arlington Police Department spokeswoman Tiara Richard, the incident occurred in the 600 block of East Arkansas Lane, at an east side apartment complex, at about 4:45 p.m. The two departments were serving an aggravated robbery warrant.
Upon arrival, Arlington police requested its SWAT team because the suspect had barricaded himself in the bedroom with two women. As SWAT officers got into position at about 7:15 p.m., shots rang out, Richard said.
The police officer, the suspect and the women were hospitalized. CBS 11's Jason Allen took this picture from the hospital, where Fort Worth officers blocked the streets.
Arlington police have not said how badly the officer was injured, only saying that he was in stable condition. Graham is an 11-year veteran of the Arlington SWAT team.
The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Alexzander Coan. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Police sources told CBS 11's Susy Solis that the suspect in the shooting is responsible for five aggravated robberies in Fort Worth, and maybe 5 more in surrounding cities.
The female hostage's injuries were from glass hitting her, causing minor abrasions.
Arlington police are continuing to investigate the incident.
