Arlington Motorcycle Officer Injured Chasing Suspect
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – An Arlington police officer is in the hospital, recovering from minor injuries he suffered while chasing a suspect.
According to police, at about 4:15 p.m., Motors Officer Jason Heisel spotted a car, being sought by the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, in southwest Arlington and tried to pull the driver over.
The suspect, David Johnson, 44, refused to stop and led Officer Heisel on a chase, making multiple turns throughout a residential area and into Dalworthington Gardens.
Johnson eventually turned down Sieber Drive, a no outlet street, with Officer Heisel close behind. When he turned his red SUV around, Johnson aimed it right at Heisel's motorcycle, according to a police statement.
Heisel's bike went down, injuring his foot, as he tried to dodge the vehicle.
Johnson continued to drive through the neighborhood and eventually crashed into a fence.
He was arrested by Arlington Police officers, taken for a medical evaluation, and then booked into the Tarrant County Jail on felony drug charges. He is wanted for questioning in an ongoing illegal narcotics investigation.
Officer Heisel is expected to make a full recovery and remains at the Medical Center of Arlington for treatment. He has been with the Arlington Police Department for eight years.
