Arlington ISD Students Get New Winter Coats
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Christmas presents arrived early for about 50 students attending Morton Elementary School in Arlington. They were escorted into the school cafeteria on Wednesday morning, where they learned that they would receive new winter coats, purchased for them by Patterson Kia of Arlington.
The 50 students selected to receive the coats are considered 'disadvantaged' because they qualify for the federal free lunch program. "It's a big thing, especially for the third and fourth graders," said Principal Steve Paulsen.
"It's the best coat," said third grade student Daniel Henao, who gave the principal a big high-five when he received his new coat, wrapped in plastic.
Arlington Independent School District spokesman Leslie Johnson said that about half of the students in the school district do not have coats. Kids at eight different schools will receive the coats, donated by Patterson Kia of Arlington.
The district is still in need of more donations. Anyone wishing to donate a free coat can deliver it to any Arlington ISD campus.
