Detectives Try To Answer Murder/Suicide Questions
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM/KRLD) - While the suspect in an Arlington murder/suicide case is dead, investigators are still trying to figure out what prompted the deadly shooting on Friday.
As it stands, police think University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) student Antonio Garcia, 22, shot and killed ad executive Steven McIntosh then turned the gun on himself.
McIntosh's wife had been counseling Garcia, as part of her position at UTA, but as far as detectives can tell Garcia had no ties to McIntosh himself.
There are still lots of questions as to why Garcia went to the Country Day School of Arlington and shot McIntosh several times. The 42-year-old father had just picked up his daughter. The 3-year-old little girl was not injured.
Police admit that with the suspect dead it is going to be difficult to get answers as to why McIntosh was killed. "The 'why' is always a really hard part whenever you have a victim and a suspect who are both deceased," explained Arlington Police Department Spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard. "It makes it more difficult to get a 'true' why."
Arlington police say the case will proceed just like any other homicide investigation. "What our investigators do and continue to do, even though you don't have a person or a suspect you're pursuing, they still try to build the case to give some semblance of understanding of what happened," said. Ellis Richard.
McIntosh's wife had reportedly recently stopped counseling Garcia and had referred him elsewhere.
McIntosh lived in Colleyville, and was an executive with the Belo Corporation in Dallas. A spokesperson for Belo, which owns Channel 8 and the Dallas Morning News, says the company is deeply saddened by the tragic loss.
