Arlington Cop Shoots & Kills Armed Man At Bar

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Arlington are investigating a shooting involving one of their officers. The incident happened shortly after 1:00 a.m. Thursday morning in the 2400 block of East Arkansas Lane. A patrol officer entered a parking lot there and was flagged down by a security guard regarding a disturbance at a nearby business.

Police also received a 911 call at about the same time, reporting a large bar fight involving more than 20 individuals. That large group appeared to be friends, as witnesses said that they all arrived at the Star Saigon Bar & Grill together.

The security guard described the scene as chaotic, as other patrons at the bar scattered to get away. "They all came in together, they were all sitting together, they were all partying together," recalled security guard Howard Humphreys. "Then something happened at the table, I don't know what, and the fight erupted. After that, it got out of hand."

The patrol officer arrived on the scene, according to authorities, to find an armed man firing a weapon at a crowd of people. The officer confronted that armed man and ultimately shot the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Later on Thursday morning, the man was identified as 31-year-old Alex Nguyen of Fort Worth.

An investigation into this shooting incident is ongoing. Police are questioning witnesses and, as a matter of routine procedure, the officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the authorities conduct their investigation. The police officer was not hurt and there were no reports of any additional injuries to other citizens.
