Arlington Back In Sports Spotlight For The Weekend
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Arlington's economy will get a big boost this weekend from sports fans from across the country.
The Rangers take on the Tampa Bay Rays Friday and Saturday night in Arlington for the first two games of the American Leauge Division Series. But that's not the only big game in town this weekend.
Jennifer Davis and Shane Dixon are in town from Arkansas for this Saturday's game between their University of Arkansas Razorbacks and the Texas A&M Aggies at Cowboys Stadium. "It's awesome. This is the field where the Cowboys play and they just had the Superbowl," said Dixon as he toured the stadium.
If you think Davis and Dixon are happy to be in Arlington, try asking how some business owners in the city feel.
Lyndsi Rowell works for Boomer Jacks in Arlington and says, "over the next three days, we're expecting our sales to double in numbers."
Business should be booming at Boomer Jacks and just about every other bar and restaurant near the Ballpark and Cowboys Stadium. With two Rangers playoff games, a college football match up and Sunday's Cowboys' game, Arlington is going to be sports paradise that's likely to bring in some heavenly revenue for the city.
"The phone has been blowing up," said Greg Gardner who owns the Grease Monkey Bar and Burger Shop. "People are asking, what are you doing, do you have a shuttle to the game, what events are you having? This weekend is going to be crazy," Gardner added.
It's not just bars and restaurants anxiously awaiting the next three days. There's no room at the inn at the Sheraton Arlington. The hotel is completely booked Friday and Saturday nights.
When this weekend's sports bonanza is all said and done, local businesses owners may be cheering the loudest.
