Are There Really Four Problems With The No. 4 Pick?

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - There are certainly reasons to like the No. 4 pick by all means. Like the possibility of adding one of the players in my other post Five at No. 4. There is also one really big reason to not like picking at No. 4; it most likely means you had a terrible season, that which the Cowboys did have. However, that's not the reason I'm nervous about the draft pick the Cowboys are interested in. I can be indecisive at times. I think all of us have a different scenario planned for this draft that would be a perfect dream.

• Trade down and get a QB and a DT
• Trade up and get the guy you want
• Don't worry about QB just get Johnny Manziel
• Take a RB in the second and call it a day
• Just wait until the second round to get Wentz

They all sound perfect now, but there is a problem with each and every one of them. Can you find the right team to trade down with? Do you want to risk being this bad in order to pick another future QB later? And that is why I feel like there might be four problems with picking at No. 4 in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Problem No. 1

The QB you want might not be there.

I'm a Jared Goff fan, and despite the idea that he is a ready now QB, I want the best possible scenario for the future and I feel like he gives you that comfort at QB of the future. However, he might not be there, so that leaves you with a number of problems.

A) Take Carson Wentz B) Take Paxton Lynch C) Take other position

I love the position of Dane Bruglar on Wentz and I fully support it. After NFL Analyst Daniel Jeremiah put Wentz as the Cowboys No. 4 pick because the Boys will be coaching him at the Senior Bowl, Bruglar posted this.

The wrist injury leaves a lot of questions and as a kid coming from North Dakota State you don't really know what you're going to get. On film, the ball jumps out of his hand and he makes a ton of great reads. Can he do it against the elite future NFL players? Let's wait until we get there.

Problem No. 2

You can't fix all of your problems with one pick.

I feel like these are positions of need or upgrade for the Cowboys this year in no particular order. QB, RB, DT, WR2, CB, S, LB, D.

You aren't going to get starting caliber players at every position because you don't have enough first round picks. Now you might be saying "but the Seahawks built their roster on 5th rounders" not every team does that, though, we would all like to.

The Cowboys have a lot of questions to answer in free agency.

• Keep Hardy or not
• Do you trust Rolando McClain
• Can Romo make it through an entire season
• Can McFadden stay healthy
• What are you doing with Brandon Carr
• Will Scandrick be back to form and can Byron Jones handle...and Mo Claiborne!!!

I'd love to say there is one player that solves everything at No. 4, but you have to be patient and get the right players throughout the draft. I want to trade back into the first to get a DT, but that might keep me from getting a third rounder this year and next…can I really fix that problem and not create another one next year?

Problem No. 3

Best Player Available

Bryan Broaddus said you are trying to limit the risk and assume responsibility for the possible boom of the No. 4 pick. The best thing to do is to stay true to your board. Scouts and GM's work really hard preparing a ranking of each talent and how they evaluate each player in the draft.

When it comes your time, you have eliminated the players before you and now you simply take the best guy you still have on your board.

What if the best available is an offensive tackle?

Can you really spend another first round pick on an offensive lineman when you have so many other holes you need to fill with Top Round talent?

What if the guy isn't a transcendent player? When you pick this high it's either because your team is perpetually awful or you had a rough season. The Cowboys want to take advantage of a rough season to get themselves a player that will help them in the hunt next year.

I feel like there are a couple of guys that you can look at in this draft that you think, yeah they are good, but are they already as good as they are going to get? I want a player who is talented, but has room to improve.

Problem No. 4

Too many options.

This sounds stupid, but again I can be indecisive.

The fortune the Cowboys had with the Zack Martin draft is that all the best options were eliminated before they got to pick. They wanted Ryan Shazier, but he was drafted by the Steelers right before them so they went with Martin who turned out to be a monster.

They knew they could fall back on BAA, and they also knew the type of talent he was going to be, he just wasn't a sexy pick. At No. 4 they are all sexy and they are all potential game breakers.

No doubt about a lot of the players physical talents, so now you have to seriously start breaking down the person too see if they can handle the pressure of being a leader in the future.

There are a bunch of options and directions the Cowboys could go and they need to properly vet each potential outcome and each player to eliminate possible busts in their draft scenarios.

Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of things I like about what I feel is a good team adding a No. 4 player, but for an indecisive person like myself I see some pitfalls. But we all trust the Cowboys to make the right pick right?
