Dallas Apartment Fire Sends Several Families Out Into The Cold

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Several families were chased from their homes on Sunday by a late night apartment fire in far north Dallas. According to officials, flames erupted after 10:00 p.m. in a building at the Preston Greens apartment complex in the 5900 block of Arapaho Road, near Preston Road.

The fire spread to four units in the building.

Investigators stated that the source may be electrical, and firefighters were seen chopping into the side of the building around a bank of electric meters. For safety, power was initially cut off throughout the entire complex, but was later restored to other buildings.

There has been no official word on the cause of the fire.

Between eight and 10 people have been displaced. The situation was even more difficult due to the cold temperatures Sunday night into Monday morning. The American Red Cross has been assisting families who need help.
