Another Ferris Wheel Could Come To Dallas In 2012

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Downtown Dallas could soon have a brand new attraction around the JFK Memorial and Dealey Plaza -- a 17-story Ferris Wheel.

Dallas County Commissioners want to follow the lead of other international cities, like London and Paris.

Supporters say the new attraction could be a 21st Century version of the Texas Star, the 20-story Ferris Wheel in Fair Park.

The Wheel would actually be a huge rotating observatory in Founders Plaza, and would sit on top of the parking garage that was built under the plaza in 2008.  Engineers for the plan say the structure could be supported.

Commissioners still need approval from the city landmark commission.

If the plan is approved, the new Ferris Wheel could be in place by March of 2012.
