IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - The U.S. Geological Survey confirms that three earthquakes rattled the Irving area on Tuesday.
The first quake struck at 8:04 a.m. and measured in at a 2.4 in magnitude -- not serious, but certainly unsettling for an area that has seen many tremors over the past few weeks.
A magnitude 2.6 quake struck at 1:37 p.m. The largest of the day -- a 3.0 -- hit at 2:25 p.m.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been 22 earthquakes in and around Irving. And there have been 42 quakes in the area since April of last year.
Earlier this month, more than a dozen earthquakes were reported in just over one day. Seismologists referred to this as an earthquake "swarm" at a meeting in Irving last week. The tremors have ranged from 1.6 to 3.6 in magnitude. Experts said that even stronger earthquakes were possible in the future.
The quakes have all been centered around the former Texas Stadium site, and Tuesday's temblors were located directly at that location.

Scientists from Southern Methodist University, along with local leaders and emergency personnel, are all continuing to study the earthquakes in hopes of finding a possible cause. More than 20 seismometers have been placed around Irving in order to collect data.
"I do not know whether this specific swarm will die out or will continue," stated SMU's Dr. Brian Stumps at last week's meeting.
