Animal Shelter At 'Code Red Full' Offering Specials

COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Want-to-be pet owners in Collin County have until 6 p.m. to take advantage of an adoption special.

Workers at the Collin County Animal Shelter say they are currently at what is called 'Code Red Full'. The shelter is at capacity because the number of animals taken in has been higher than the number of pets being adopted out.

To help find animals homes, the shelter is offering a pet adoption discount today and the amount you save depends on the pet you pick.

"We're doing a $25 adoption fee on all dogs and cats," worker Lisa Drummon explained and added that, "If you adopt a black cat or dog, or mostly black, it's a $10 adoption fee and it still covers the surgery, the microchip and the rabies vaccination."

According to Drummond, black dogs and cats often go overlooked in the adoption process and usually end up staying at the shelter for a longer time.

The adoption special runs through 6 p.m., September 19.

The Collin County Animal Shelter is located at 4750 Community Avenue in McKinney.
