Animal Cruelty Not Ruled Out In Bloody Horse Deaths

PARKER (CBSDFW.COM) - A mystery surrounds the deaths of two horses on a Collin County ranch. Was it a fight between the animals or a vicious act of animal cruelty?
Lisa Henricks and her family, which included 3 horses and a donkey, were drawn to the quiet countryside in Parker just east of Plano.
"We found this location. It was perfect and that's how we ended up here," she says. It was also a place where her 11-year-old daughter could train for equestrian events with an Arabian horse called Beauty that lived up to its name.
"They were soulmates they were fantastic and the ring together," says Henricks.
But a noise from the family's donkey on Sunday night signaled something was wrong.
"So I got the flashlight and came out front," says Henricks.
She didn't notice anything then but the next morning Beauty was found dead in a pool of blood on the pasture while Tootsie Roll was soon to follow with broken bones from head to hoof.
"It was devastating to see Tootsie Roll in the amount of pain she was in," says Henricks, "You could just see the life going right out of her it was horrifying."
Parker police and animal control were called. The Henricks' say they were told it could have been a fight between the horses but they suspect someone attacked them.
"These horses were pasture mates for three years and never once fought, they didn't have any secondary wounds like kick marks or bite marks." says Henricks.
Whatever killed the horses its led to some unsettling nights in a place not known for them.
"I can't fathom why somebody would do it," she says.
